Rezultatul a fost construirea , sau refacerea unor avioane sovietice YAK- 3U sau YAK -11, pastrand proiectul de structura originala , dar echipate cu motoare Pratt &Whitney, cam de doua ori mai puternice fata de motorul original si cu o elice mult mai performanta . Rezultatul a fost un avion "de curse" folosit in SUA la competitiile de la Reno, unde inca se mai zboara ca pe vremea lui Vlaicu in jurul a noua piloni , desigur pe clase de competitori, pe primul loc fiind desigur viteza.
Avionul din imagine a fost construit la Avioane in 2005 si este cel care a batut recordul detinut de Howard Hughes in 1935 ( filmul AVIATORUL cu Leonardo DiCaprio ) la clasa sub 6000 pounds . ( 2800 kg)

Though based on the World War Two Yakovlev Yak-3U, this example is based on a Yak-11 airframe and was built in Romania in 2005, powered by a Pratt and Whitney R-2000 radial engine. It was registered N46463 to William E Whiteside, in California in 2005, and was used in the Reno Air Races with the name ‘Steadfast’.
In 2011 it broke the 3K World Speed Record at Wendover, Utah in the USA travelling at a speed of 416.02 mph (670 kph). You can watch a video of this event herehttp://vimeo.com/30833749
In late 2013, it was shipped to Australia and has been under rebuild in the AeroJacks hangar since November 2013. It was registered in Australia on 24 December 2013 as VH-YOV, but still carries its US registration. Great to see it on static display with the Australia day aircraft at Jandakot.

Pilot Will Whiteside Sets Climb Record
Will Whiteside, the former airline pilot whose day job is flying members of Sonoma County's prominent Trione and Codding families wherever they need to go, has always been a fast climber.
Whiteside, 40, just raised his own bar. Taking off from the Charles Schulz-Sonoma County Airport, he and his race team set four world records this week by pushing their Romanian-built fighter — named Steadfast — to great heights in very little time.
Whiteside reached 3,000 meters — nearly 10,000 feet — in two minutes, five seconds. The previous record for a propeller-driven, radial-engine airplane in the same weight class as Steadfast was three minutes, 33 seconds.

Bravo SRI-ului care in 1995 a sesizat Parchetul despre fabricatia acestui avion ca fiind destinat transportului de droguri in Columbia, avion nici militar nici civil, oricum foarte suspect la nivelul de intelegere de atunci al " specialistilor " in aviatie , Programul a fost stopat dupa fabricarea a 5 avioane si reluat in 2005.

In 1991 a inceput colaborarea intre Avioane Craiova si firma franceza Capel Aviation. Aceasta firma a platit separat proiectarea avionului YAK 11 si pregatirea de fabricatie (tooling-ul) pentru excecutie impreuna cu o comanda de 10 bucati.
ȘtergereDupa semnarea contractului, in mai putin de doi ani a zburat cu succes prototipul care a fost livrat in Franta.
Avioanele au fost prezentate la muzeul din Fairte Alais ca un omagiu al celebrei escadrile franceze Normandie care a zburat in wwII cu astfel de avioane .

Dupa prima livrare , in 1994, cand avioanele erau executate, au intervenit "autoritatile" la "sesizarile" unor asa zisi specialisti" . Se spuneau numai prostii, inclusiv ca aceste avioane avut ca destinatie transportul de droguri din Columbia .

S-a blocat contracttul initial, au mai trecut anii, Avioane Craiova a pierdut datorita "organelor" piata de avioane replica. Apoi a aparut comanda pentru YAK ul campion care a avut o soarta mai buna .

Am intrat pe wikipedia sa ma uit la cele 2 modele si sunt diferente semnificative: Motor, Greutatea aparatului, viteza, lungime, anvergura...
nu pare a fi doar o imbunatatire a avionului IAK11.
Mai degraba este un avion cu totul diferit...
YAK 3 avea motor V 12 racit cu lichid si era simpla comanda

YAK 3 UTI este varainta dubla comanda care a devenit in productie YAK 11
Sunt considerate replici autentice avioane produse recent de Yakovlev cu motoare Allison V 1710
Cele facute la Craiova sunt considerate reproduceri , de fapt YAK uri 11 transformate in YAK 3u avand si multe modificari fata de proiectul original ,
Povestea cu licenta e o mare prostie la categoria acestor avioane considerate de colectie.
